Dear Island Climate Action Network,
As summer approaches, we've assembled some ideas of things you can do to keep climate action moving during this time of the Coronavirus:
sign an important petition,
support food and farm efforts--locally, nationally, and at home--and
work on your home's energy footprint in ways that will help us move towards our goal of a 100% Renewable Martha's Vineyard by 2040.
Scroll down to see what we've found!
LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!
A coalition of groups have created an on-line petition asking state leaders
to pass climate legislation.
They need to get out of committee by June 4 to stand any chance of passing.
H.2836, H.3983 Commit MA to zero emissions
H.2810 Fund the transition to a green economy by charging corporate polluters a carbon fee with rebates to low and moderate income households to defray increased energy costs.
H.4264 Protect Low-income people and people of color
SUPPORT LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTION!
The Gazette did a great article offering information about a variety of ways to support local farms this summer:  CSAs, ordering vegetables online and ways to get seedlings
for your own garden.  Find out how you can support our farms.

SUPPORT FARMLINK!
to help others across the country have enough food.  Farmlink is a group of young volunteers bringing excess food from farms to communities in need.  100% of your donation is used for food transport.
This New York Times article tells more about the situation.

SUPPORT YOUR GARDEN AND THE CLIMATE - COMPOST!
Compost is a great way to reduce the amount of trash we ship off-island and improve your garden's soil.  Learn about how to compost at home, or take your compost to any island transfer station and it will be composted by IGI at Thimble Farm.  Learn more about backyard composting here, and what can go in  compost you bring to the local transfer station here.
START IN ON MAKING YOUR HOUSE CLIMATE FRIENDLY!
Below are some resources to help you.
TAKE THE PLEDGE:  JOIN THE CLEAN ENERGY MOVEMENT!
The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center has launched a campaign that explains how to reduce your home's fossil fuel use.  Doing the things listed at your house will help our island reach the goal of 100% Renewable by 2040.

Cape Light Compact is now offering no-cost Virtual Home Energy Asssesments which identify energy-saving opportunities in your home. They also provide information on equipment rebates and no-cost products, as well as access to 0% financing and a limited time offer of up to 100% off approved insulation
(terms and conditions apply).

Finally, NOAA has predicted a stronger than normal hurricane season this year
Register for Code RED, our emergency alert system: a good first step to prepare.
With that, stay safe, stay healthy and enjoy the start of summer!
