BE AN ADVOCATE

Let your voice be heard by voting, help get people in office who will work to establish effective climate change policies, and get involved on the local level to be sure climate change is considered in every decision we make. Look below for some issues you might speak up about.

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

VOTE
Our future depends on it!

Use your power as a citizen to elect officials at the federal, state, and local levels, who not only acknowledge climate change, but are committed to advocating for a fossil-free future

INVEST WISELY
Divest from fossil-fuel and other climate-harming investments.

100% RENEWABLE MV

Support the 100% Renewable MV initiative when it is brought forth at Town Meeting.

Support town initiatives and warrant articles that make your town’s buildings energy-efficient and 100% electric.

Advocate for an all-electric fleet for your town’s vehicles and for more charging stations.

Do YOUR part to go all-electric with your house, business and vehicles.

GET INVOLVED

Advocate for town and island response to climate change.

Attend local board meetings to support adaptation and mitigation strategies in your town and on the island.

BOARD MEETINGS:
Energy Committee, Conservation Commission,
Planning Board, MV Commission,
School Committees,
Steamship Authority.

SUPPORT OFF-SHORE WIND

We have a tremendous resource available to us because we live by the coast— offshore wind.

Offshore wind power reduces our need for power from fossil fuel-powered plants and greatly reduces our carbon footprint. Make your support clear to local, state, and federal officials during the permitting processes.

SUPPORT CYCLING

Advocate for bike path creation and enforcement of safe passing laws.

We need safe routes all around our island and to our schools.

Talk to your Selectmen, Highway Dept, Planning Board & MV Commission representatives.

SUPPORT ISLAND-WIDE COMPOSTING

Advocate for an island-wide composting system to greatly reduce our island’s waste and the energy used to ship trash off-island.

Encourage your Selectmen to support a centralized, island-wide composting solution.

SCHOOLS

Urge your school committee representatives to make ALL our school buses electric.

Ask for charging stations for teachers and students at schools.

Insist that all new buildings and renovations be as energy-efficient as possible and 100% electric- from a renewable source.

FERRIES

Push for more efficient ferries for the Steamship Authority. If we are not ready yet for electric ones, then let’s try hybrids.

Contact our Steamship Authority representative to express your enthusiasm for this.
